How it works
Many kids in lower-income homes have very few books of their own. Kids who have books at home read more. We want to change what is on their shelves.
You give
Your business makes a tax-deductible gift. You get a receipt by email.
We buy books
A book partner gets us new children's books at a deep discount, so your gift goes further.
Kids get mail
Each month, a new book arrives at the home of a Learn To Be student in Southern California.
Meet our kids and tutors
Every Learn To Be student gets a tutor who shows up for them every week. These are three of their stories.
“I feel much more confident in my classes now.”
Linda and her tutor, Elsa, started together in May 2025. Linda finished middle school with a 3.8 GPA.
“When I retired after 52 years, I wasn’t sure who I was anymore.”
Sharon was a nurse for five decades. Now she tutors with Learn To Be and calls it her “second career.”
